Joint Efforts For Sustainable Development

In the European Commission, the Directorate General for humanitarian aid (ECHO) manages humanitarian aid financed by the community budget. The main objective of this aid is to save and preserve lives in emergency and immediate post emergency situations and during natural catastrophes and conflict.

As a donor, ECHO does not implement projects directly in the field but gives support to partner organisations specialised in humanitarian aid. These operational partners include: United Nations humanitarian agencies, the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement, Lutheran World Federationand non-governmental organisations that have signed a partnership agreement with the Commission.

ECHO partners with LWF to improve people's livelihoods and to extend clean water and sanitary facilities to Ugandans and refugees in Uganda's settlements.

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees ( UNHCR)  is the  agency  mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country.

UNHCR partners with LWF to extend humanitarian support to refugees in terms of water and sanitary facilities, community service, shelter and construction.  LWF is a multisectoral implementing partner of UNHCR in Moyo, Lamwo and Adjumani district’s settlements.

The Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration provides aid and sustainable solutions for refugees, victims of conflict and stateless people around the world, through repatriation, local integration, and resettlement in the United States. PRM also promotes the United States' population and migration policies.

In Uganda's settlements, BPRM partners with LWF to improve refugees and host community residents' livelihoods and to also create self-reliance among them.

Church of Sweden (CoS) aims to reduce poverty by strengthening people’s economic, social and cultural rights. CoS' work is based on a rights-based approach and supports people’s struggles for the right to food, sustainable livelihood, security, education and health.

The Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) is a memeber of the ACTalliance just like LWF. CLWR strives for a world where people live in peace with hope, justice, dignity and equality, empowered to achieve their universal rights to quality life and to have their basic needs met.

CLWR's work is based on a Christian view of humanity, challenges the causes and responds to the consequences of human suffering and poverty. The organization's work is financed by contributions from Canadian individuals, funds from the Canadian Government through Global Affairs Canada (GAC), among other bilateral donors and partners.

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners.

IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.

IOM partners with LWF to extend sanitary facilities to refugees and host community residents in Uganda's refugee settlements. This is aimed at improving sanitation and hygiene in the target locations.
