EMERGENCY UPDATE

Uganda hosts over 1,026,043 refugees and remains the largest host country for South Sudanese refugees, accommodating approximately 761,027 of them. Thousands of South Sudanese continue to flee to Uganda from a war-torn and famine stricken mother country. The influx continues to amass with an average of 2,203 daily arrivals received in Palorinya, Uganda's newest settlement established in December, 2017. The refugee population in Palorinya stands at 138,785 surpassing its standard capacity of 100,000.

Away from home, refugees need material and psychosocial support for survival. LWF provides core relief items, shelter, water and sanitary facilities, protection as well as psychosocial counselling to refugees in Palorinya and other settlements in Uganda. With the increasing numbers, resources are stretched and hardly enough.
