Climate Action

LWF Uganda supports communities to respond to climate change through clean energy access, conservation, and restoration of natural resources, with a focus on both humanitarian and development settings.

Clean and Sustainable Energy

To contribute to SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy), we promote access to clean energy for lighting and cooking in off-grid and low-income households. This includes:

  • Solar lighting solutions
  • Fuel-efficient and alternative cooking technologies
  • Support aligned with UNHCR’s SAFE (Safe Access to Fuel and Energy) strategy in refugee settlements

Access to energy is approached not only as a sustainability goal, but as a humanitarian right essential for health, safety and productivity.

Conservation and Restoration

To preserve ecosystems and mitigate the impacts of climate change in line with SDG 13, we support:

  • Tree planting and reforestation campaigns
  • On-farm conservation of indigenous and endangered tree species such as Shea nut trees
  • Community-led regeneration and protection of natural resources

Community Involvement and Peaceful Coexistence

All our work in climate action is designed to foster environmental peace and security, especially in refugee-hosting areas where natural resources are under pressure. Communities take part in tree marking, regeneration, and management of shared natural assets to reduce conflict and promote shared stewardship.
