Improved menstrual hygiene with reusable sanitary pads increase girls’ access to education, with dignity
With the funding from Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), LWF as one of leading partners in Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) promotes menstrual hygiene management (MHM) as a way of restoring girls’ dignity.
180 boys and girls from 6 schools were trained in making of reusable menstrual pads from locally available materials in Adjumani. The project strives to improve health, self-sustenance and youth empowerment, with more durable and environmentally-friendly ways of managing periods.
“Equipping girls and boys with skills and knowledge on menstrual hygiene cascades to homes, and breaks the silence about menstruation. This way girls can stay in school. LWF Uganda invests in girls because it is investing in a better future for everyone”, the WASH staff, Eva Nakidde explains. Children are the change-makers in ending the stigma of menstruation period.
